A couple of days ago, I was sorting out my makeup products. I needed to sort them out because I wasn’t using most of the products I had. Since I haven’t really been into beauty, I felt the need to do something about it, but I was a bit confused as to which products to leave behind, donate or completely throw out.
I was having a conversation with Father while struggling to decide which products to keep for myself, and although I could simply just ask for His help to sort things out, I didn’t want to. I had assumed it would be awkward to ask Father to help me out with something like makeup and I had even started to think that He won’t really know much about it.
Like why would the creator of the universe not know about makeup?
You see because I had this mindset of creating boxes of where Father should help me and where He shouldn’t help me, I began to put limits on His abilities. I began to see Him as a God who is only needed in some areas and insignificant in others and this led me to a point of thinking that I’m capable of doing things on my own without His help.
Why do we create boxes?
I had to really sit down and think about this one for a moment. Why do we create boxes?
Why do we feel like God is only needed in the extremely difficult areas of our lives and not in the smallest ones? Why do we need Him only when things go wrong and not when things go well? Why do we beg for His presence only when it seems like we are lacking something and not beg for His presence at all times? Why do we pick and choose the boxes where we need Him to be instead of just putting Him in every single one of them?
I had to think about this one for a moment, and it really all started to make sense to me.
We create boxes because we have limited God in our minds without even knowing it. And you may be thinking that it’s impossible to limit God because He is known to do the unimaginable, but honestly ask yourself this question.
Do you involve God in the little things?
Do you tell Him to wake you up in the middle of the night so that you could study for that difficult test? Do you tell Him to teach you how to properly brush your teeth so that you don’t get a cavity? Do you tell Him to help you pick the right tv show to watch? Do you tell Him to help you cook a meal that would taste amazing? Do you tell Him to help you sort out the makeup or outfit to wear for the day?
If you answered no to at least a few of these questions, then maybe you should reconsider how much you have limited God without even realizing it.
You see, it’s not only when God gives us that expensive car or that dream house that we know He is involved. He is actually always involved in the little things as well, but because we as humans have made it seem like it’s of our own doing, we start to limit God into thinking that He isn’t involved these areas.
The bible says in Psalm 37:23 that “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives” So it is important for us to know from that verse that God is involved in every detail of our lives. He doesn’t want us creating boxes of where He should be and where He shouldn’t be.
So the moment we let go of the boxes and realize that He is the creator of our being and actually helps us in the smallest day to day activities in our lives, then maybe we can stop limiting Him.
So my advice for you today is; Let go of the boxes!
Till next time,
