Can A Christian Have A Demon? Heck Yes They Can

Can a Christian have a demon?

Okay, this question has been flying around in the body of Christ and I felt now is the right time for me to address it. Because for a while now there’s been a lot of deception flying around in the body of Christ concerning this topic and I truly believe the Lord wants me to speak about it.

Soo… Can a true Christian have a demon? YES!

However, a true Christian CANNOT be possessed by a demon.

Can a demon live on the inside of a true Christian? YES!

Can a demon have full control and ownership of a true Christian? NO!

I honestly believe the word “possession” is a bit extreme in the area of deliverance in a Christian’s life since we are owned by Jesus and CANNOT be possessed by a demon. However, that doesn’t eliminate the fact that a true believer can still have a demon living on the inside of them without completely possessing them

So for this post, I will be bringing scriptures to prove that a Christian can, in fact, have a demon in an area of their life that is not surrendered to the Holy Spirit.

It doesn’t mean the person is not saved or not a Christian. Rather, It means that such an area is not surrendered to Jesus probably due to personal sins, generational sins or lack of illumination.

With that being said, I personally have performed self-deliverance on myself many times and I am a believer.

In fact, recently, the Lord showed me how my eating habit was not surrendered to Him which prompted me to cast the demon of gluttony OUT of me and receive freedom. Now I eat more healthy foods and have completely lost my desire for junk food.

So with that being said, let’s bring some scriptures to prove this.

Your body is a Temple, not a box.

In 2018 September when I had just gotten saved and filled with the Holy Spirit, the Lord took me through a journey of studying the Tabernacle.

At that time, I was still young in my faith and I had no idea why the Lord kept telling me to study the Tabernacle, but I thank God I didn’t give up because it opened a new door of revelation for me.

The scripture says that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 corinthians 6:19) and Jesus also references the word temple in John 2:19 where He said: “Destroy this Temple and in 3 days I will raise it up”. At the same time, Jesus told the people in John 8:37 that “His word had no place in them”. And lastly, in Ephesians 4:27, Paul warns us to give no place (Hebrew) to the devil.

One key thing you will see with these scriptures is that Jesus is giving us a code of how our bodies really are. And He does this to show us that our bodies are not merely boxes, but temples that have rooms (places).

Also, If you go to the book of Exodus 26, you will see how the Tabernacle was broken down into the outer courts, holy place, and most holy place. At the same time, there were curtains (veils) in the tabernacle that separated the most holy place from the lesser holy place which is referenced again by Paul in Hebrews 10:19-20. And we know from the scriptures in the old testament that only the High Priest was allowed to enter the most holy place. Since now we know Jesus to be the great High Priest (see Hebrews 4:14), where do you think He dwells on the inside of your temple?

The study of the Tabernacle helps us to understand how our bodies really are spiritually, so that we don’t come to the conclusion that our bodies are boxes where only one being can dwell, when in fact, it’s way bigger than we think.

The man with the Legion of demons in Mark 5:9 shows us how so many demons were able to dwell in one man’s body. If his body were merely a box, why could so many demons live in it?

We even see again in Matthew 21:12, Jesus entering the outer courts and DRIVING OUT the money changers, and seats of those who sold pigeons. What do you think the driving out meant spiritually?

Solomon even built a temple for the Lord and if you really study the building of the temple, you would see similarities with the Tabernacle discussed in Exodus 26.

Even after building the temple, Solomon Himself said, “will God dwell on earth?”, knowing very well that God doesn’t dwell in temples made by human hands which Paul referenced again in Acts 7:48.

This, therefore, reveals the mystery of our bodies being actual Temples/Tabernacles.

Ever wondered why God would tell Solomon to build a temple if He wasn’t going to ACTUALLY live in it? This shows us a great mystery of how Daddy God created our bodies.

Your body has members

Okay, this is another revelation that Daddy God started showing me recently. For a long time, I always assumed the parts of our bodies were merely just parts, but it turns out these parts of our bodies are ACTUALLY living and have rooms too.

That’s why Paul warns us in Romans 6:13 not to present our members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but instead to present ourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, AND our members to God as instruments for righteousness.

At the same time, Ecclesiastes 1:8 speaks more about these members by saying “the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.” and even Job made a covenant with his eyes (see Job 31:1).

Can you make a covenant with a non-living thing? Of course not!

Even Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:30 that it is better for us to lose our members than for our whole bodies to be thrown into hell. He even tells us to cast it off and throw it away.

Do you think Jesus was really telling us to use a knife and cut off our physical hands? Absolutely not!. He was talking in spiritual terms about our members and what lives on the inside of us. Even Paul talks about the work in his members in Romans 7:23 and concludes in verse 25 by thanking Jesus for deliverance.

With that being said, if a Christian does yield one of his members knowingly or unknowing for unrighteousness, he does open the door for a demon to dwell in that member. And most times, these demons look for an opportunity to enter as shown in Genesis 4:7, hence why it’s important for us to resist them both in our actions and thoughts.

Sadly, there are some Christians today who yield their smallest and most dangerous member, the tongue (James 3:5) as an instrument of unrighteousness and have demons lodging in there. And yet, they wonder why they can’t seem to stop lying, cursing, gossiping, slandering, speaking curses on themselves or spreading false rumors.

Deliverance is not a one-time thing

There is this false doctrine that has spread in the church that once a Christian is saved they are automatically delivered. Yet, I always wondered why so many Christians lived in bondage to wrong mindsets, diseases, and behavioral patterns.

It wasn’t until God started teaching me about the true meaning of the Lord’s prayer that I started to gain understanding. In Matthew 6, Jesus gave us a guide on how to pray. And in that guide, He says “deliver us from evil”.

If then we are automatically delivered from evil the moment we are saved, why did Jesus give us that verse as a prayer? How come Ananias and Sapphire were still able to get Satan to fill their hearts in Acts 5:3?

In fact, why did Simon the sorcerer ask to buy the Holy Spirit in Act 8:19 when he was already saved and baptized? How come he wasn’t fully delivered?

This helps us understand the importance of repentance and deliverance even after a person has believed in Jesus… because Simon himself was still under the bondage of bitterness and iniquity.

Because we have been translated into a new kingdom doesn’t mean we don’t need deliverance anymore. Actually, our translation is the beginning of our deliverance.

Don’t say you’re fully surrendered to Jesus if you’ve never received deliverance. Be honest with yourself and do regular self-examination.

Your Body needs Bread

This is still a great mystery to me, but it is one that has honestly pushed me to hunger more for the scriptures. About 6 months ago, Jesus started showing me how bread (i.e word of God) gives us light. And if your body is lacking bread, then darkness is still living there.

In Luke 11:36, Jesus gives us a mystery of how darkness and light can reside in our bodies. The scripture says “If then your whole body is full of light, having no dark corner, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light”

That scripture reveals that it is possible to have light and still have dark corners. Yet I still hear some Christians who ignorantly say that light and darkness cannot dwell in the same area.

If light and darkness cannot dwell in the same area, then how come Satan was able to enter the presence of God in the book of Job?

This is why it’s important for us to study the Tabernacle and the lampstands in the tabernacle so that we can turn on the lights with the word of God.

David also said in Psalm 119:130 that “the unfolding of your words gives light.”. This, therefore, helps us to see the importance of our daily bread and how it brings deliverance by illuminating the dark corners.

Some of you reading this are in bondage to some of these demonic entities due to the lies you keep entertaining. For example, the word of God says that God loves you, yet you entertain the lie that God does not love you and doesn’t want to bless you. Doesn’t it show there’s a dark corner in you that needs light? Don’t be deceived, where there is darkness, all sorts of workers of iniquity will dwell there.

God sometimes uses Demons for His purposes

This will sound like a shocker to some of you, but God might allow a demon to take up a spot in you for His personal purposes.

In the book of 2 Corinthians 7, Paul talks about how He was given a thorn in his flesh which was a messenger of Satan to torment Him. Yet, I hear so many theologians and preachers today who assume the thorn was a sickness. This poor teaching makes me so angry because it tries to shut down the ministry of deliverance.

I guess it’s because a lot of these theologians have not come to the understanding that spiritually we look like trees (see Mark 8:24), hence why the Lord tends to speak in tree-form, using words like fruits, branches, thorns, roots, etc.

Also, in 1 Kings 22:22, God allowed a lying spirit to enter the mouths of the false prophets so that His purpose could be accomplished. This opens a bigger mystery of how God can use even demons to accomplish His purpose.

They shall cast OUT devils

Jesus told us in Mark 16 that in His name we shall cast OUT devils. Yet, it seems like in the body of Christ a lot of people tend to assume devils are only cast OFF of people.

Some have even entertained the lie that it’s only unbelievers that devils need to be cast OUT of. Yet I still can’t seem to wrap my head around why an unbeliever would want to have a demon cast out of them in the name of Jesus if they don’t believe in Jesus. Even the Canaanite woman believed in Jesus before her daughter received deliverance (see Matthew 15:21-28).

Additionally, why would Jesus call it the children’s bread in Matthew 15:26 if believers don’t need deliverance?

This shows how important it is that we start casting out devils more often in our churches instead of tolerating their nonsense deception.

There’s so much more I would love to say about this topic, but I don’t want this blog post to be super long. But I hope this helps some of you get set free by answering the question can a Christian have a demon.
