Why I Gave Up On The Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray

So this post is going to be a mini rant/reason as to why I had to completely get rid of my Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you would know that I’m a huge fan of Mario Badescu products. But sadly, I did find an issue with the rosewater spray that almost everyone seems to continuously rave about.

Recently, I’ve been on a skin cleansing journey, where I take my time to properly take good care of my skin to prevent acne and blemishes. During this time, I would go through all my skincare products to figure out what works best and get rid of what doesn’t. While doing this, I stumbled upon my Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray, and just felt completely heartbroken.

I had tried for months to like this product, simply because I love how it soaks in my makeup and gives it a more natural look. But the side effects this spray gives, is really where the issue is for me.

For the longest time during my skincare journey, I’ve always been looking for the culprit for my acne. I had thrown out so many other products thinking that such were responsible for causing my breakouts, but little did I know that this Mario Badescu Rosewater spray was what was causing the damage.

How did I figure this out?

Well, a few weeks back, I decided to completely cut off makeup application for a short period of time, just to give my skin a bit more time to breathe. During this period, I went about my regular skin care routine but made sure that I wasn’t leaving on any products on my skin for a long period of time. I relied solely on facial sprays and skipped moisturizing overall, as my skin wasn’t really in need of the extra moisture.

Then the horror happened…

I woke up one morning to a ton of breakouts on my skin, wondering how the heck it happened, especially since I was following my trusted skincare routine.

There had to be something that was causing it…

So as usual, I ignored the facial spray and started checking the water system of my apartment, and just a ton of other irrelevant things that weren’t responsible for my breakouts.

Because of all the positive reviews about the Mario Badescu Rosewater spray, I had automatically convinced myself to like the product, without thinking twice about its effectiveness.

So during the search for my acne culprit, I decided to just give up everything, including the facial sprays. I would just wash with a regular cleanser and go straight to bed. I have more of a normal to combination skin type, so getting dry wasn’t anything to worry about.

This time around I noticed a difference…

I had no breakouts whatsoever. My skin legit felt like a baby’s ass.

I should have continued with the same routine, but I was very silly and decided to hop back to using my Mario Badescu facial spray.

And you probably guessed it…

My crazy acne came back again!

So obviously, I had to completely throw it out. And since then, I haven’t had any issues.

Other recommendations to the Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray…

Although I didn’t want to completely ditch the brand, I decided to head to Ulta a couple weeks back and purchase a completely different facial spray from them. This time around, I picked up the Mario Badescu facial spray with Aleo, Cucumber, and Green tea.

This spray is literally AMAZING, and it doesn’t break me out whatsoever. I’m happy that I didn’t completely ignore their products, and decided to try something different.

I would definitely recommend this spray if you want to pick up something from this brand.

Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of the products I mentioned…

  • I stopped using the spray for that exact same reason months ago and once my skin cleared upI convinced myself it wasn’t from that and started using it again because i love the finish it leaves after makeup. my skin is a complete horror right now and i know i have to stop again but need a replacement product. hoping you’re correct about the aloe spray leaving the same finish without the breakouts! thanks for the article !

    • You’re welcome. Yes, the aleo spray is so much better than the rosewater in my opinion. I rarely breakout each time I use the aleo spray, hence why I stuck to it.

      Much love, xox

  • I haven’t used any of their products besides the facial spray. But knowing what kind of skin type you have, you should know to be more careful about products, specifically “natural” ones as those may cause allergens on their own.
I would recommend their orange sage spray though! I have very dry skin. One day my face was dry and I desperately used moisturizer over again but it did nothing. I used this spray and it kept me hydrated much longer! Very surprised.

    • I mean, I like the green tea spray, but this particular one makes me break out while the other one doesn’t. I actually find that natural products DON’T make me breakout.

I’m glad this product has no issues on your end, I just happen to be unlucky I guess.

      God bless x

  • I googled and found this godsend and now don’t feel so insane. I know people love it but literally every time I use this specific spray I break out (usually on my forehead so it doesn’t seem connected to hormones). I’ll have to try the kind you now love and hopefully I’ll have similar results! Thank you!!
