No bullshit! This L’Oreal rouge signature matte lip stain is absolutely gorgeous on dark skin tones. Well, not just dark skin tones alone, but all skin tones in general.
I was out at Walmart when I suddenly stumbled across this red lipstick sitting cute and classy on the top shelf.
Appalled by its beauty, I decided to take a closer look to see if it was worth my coins or not.
For a while now, I’ve struggled with finding the perfect red lipstick for my skin tone. In the past, each time I purchased one, it was usually too red or too orangey for me.
Thankfully, the almighty took me into consideration when L’Oreal was creating this formula because this lipstick has the perfect balance of red and orange in its mix.
As a black woman, my undertone falls in the neutral category. Meaning, any red lipstick I purchase must have the perfect balance of cold and warm tones in its mix. If it’s too warm, I end up looking like Bart Simpson and if it’s too cool I end up like Elsa. And in order not to fall into any extremes, I go for lipsticks with a balanced tint.
This L’Oreal Rouge signature matte lip stain in the shade Empowered happens to be the new go-to of mine, simply because it meets those requirements.
L’Oreal rouge signature matte lip stain review
Now, there are some things I like and some things I dislike about this product.
Though the shade compliments my skin tone really well, I ran into some issues with the overall performance.
On my first try, I noticed the formula runs on the watery side which I’m not particularly the biggest fan of. But it ended up being a HUGE positive because it made the application so much easier.
Matte lipglosses with lower viscosities are very difficult to apply. And each time they dry out, they leave cracks around the lips which looks very unattractive. Therefore, I love how lightweight this formula is.
With that being said, although the watery consistency helps with easier application, I found this a bit too watery. I had to constantly dip the stick to fully build up the product which became kind of annoying at some point. Plus, it didn’t give me the matte finish that I expected it to.
I personally noticed more of a satin-matte finish rather than a pure matte finish, which I’m honestly not mad about. But, if you’re interested in a completely matte finish (as advertised), you might find this a bit disappointing.
Does it transfer?
No, it doesn’t transfer. So you don’t have to worry about getting makeup on your man while smooching him. Don’t worry girl, I did a transfer test to see if it does transfer and it didn’t, so we’re safe.
Is it drying?
Absolutely not. Though advertised as being a matte finish lipstick, it falls more on the satin-matte side of things which makes it comfortable to wear and less drying.
Is the applicator durable?
So far, I haven’t had any issues with it. In fact, I love it.
The shape of the applicator makes it easy to get the product around the edges of your lips, which is a plus.
Is it great on dark skin tones?
YES, YES AND YES. Especially if you’re the natural makeup kind of girl. I tested this out on my roommate who is much darker than I am, and it looked stunning on her skin tone.
Overall, I do love this product and will be wearing it more often until I find something more matte to replace it. I personally would recommend this product to someone who prefers a natural lightweight makeup look. Since the formula is pretty lightweight, it will be great for long hours at work or on the go.
