I recently just reviewed the brand new Kkw beauty concealers a few days ago and now I’m back again with another review of the kkw beauty x Mario eyeshadow palette.
I ordered this when it released and was so impatient to give it a try. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you would know that I’m a huge fan of eyeshadows and would continuously splurge on whatever new release comes into the beauty world.
Honestly, I was a bit hesitant at first to order this palette and give it a try. The colors in the palette could be found in some of my currently owned eyeshadow palettes, so I definitely didn’t want to waste money picking this up. However, after seeing a few tutorials using this palette, as well as a couple swatches, I just had to give it a go.
I’m the type of person who absolutely dislikes carrying multiple shadows in order to achieve a certain look. Usually, I prefer to stick to one palette and create versatile looks without having to dig into another eyeshadow to find a color to work for my looks. Seeing as this palette had all the basic colors I would need for an everyday eyeshadow, I thought to give it a try.
The fact that she had this collab with Mario was definitely another reason why I wanted to pick this up as well. As we all know in the beauty community, Mario Dedivanovic is like the king when it comes to makeup. I always trust his methods and techniques and usually find them very helpful on a makeup application basis. With that being said, this palette just had to be a must-have.
My package arrived in a week, which I thought was great, because the last time I ordered her concealers, it took about 2 weeks for me to get it.
I would advise that you never order a product on the first launch, as shipping can take a little longer than expected to arrive. So wait a couple days, or until the next launch to order (unless it’s a limited edition product).
So without any further talking, here are my thoughts on the KKW beauty x Mario Palette.
KKW Beauty x Mario Eyeshadow Palette Review
Honestly, there’s really nothing too interesting anymore about Kim’s packaging. It basically looks similar to a few of her other releases, except this time, the packaging has more of a grey tint than a peachy nude.
I personally didn’t care too much about the packaging, but I do like that it comes with a mirror which I would find very useful when playing around with this palette.
No kidding, when I opened this palette, the first thing that came to my mind was “MINI JACLYN HILL PALETTE“. Honestly, I legit saw this palette as a travel sized version of the Jaclyn Hill palette since it comes with similar but fewer shades. I won’t say the colors are exactly the same as the Jaclyn hill palette, however, you can definitely create similar looks using both.
I believe Jaclyn’s palette is way cheaper than the kkw beauty x Mario eyeshadow palette with a lot more variety of shades, so you definitely won’t be missing out on this one.
The palette comes with 10 shades, which consist mostly of warm neutral matte and shimmery shades, as well as a bluish pop of color that gives the palette its own uniqueness.
Honestly, the colors aren’t as pigmented as I had imagined them to be, however they do blend nicely when applied on the skin. The pigment is more on the buildable side, so don’t expect a blinding color with just one dip with a brush.
The shimmery shades are definitely creamy and not patchy on the skin, which I do appreciate. The mattes are also very blendable and apply on beautifully on the skin.
Due to how less pigmented the shades are, I find that depending on your skin tone, you might struggle a bit with some of the shades in the palette.
Some of the shades didn’t show up on my lid, even after building pigment, so that definitely cut points off from this palette.
As expected, the kkw x Mario eyeshadow palette retails for $45 on her website. I wasn’t too surprised with the price range, and it definitely seemed like a fair price point given the fact that you’re paying for the name Kim & Mario.
Like I mentioned earlier, if this seems like a higher priced product for you, then definitely check out Jaclyn’s palette, which is definitely a Big Bang for your bucks.
You can definitely create similar looks with both palettes depending on if you want something more neutral or warm.
My thoughts on the kkw beauty x Mario eyeshadow palette
To be very honest, I’m not the biggest fan of the kkw beauty x Mario eyeshadow palette. It definitely is a good quality on the go palette, but the shades aren’t very appealing to me. I do wish she had a few more matte shades that could work well with a variety of skin tones.
So far, I can only see my self-playing with 2 matte shades in this palette, which I see as sort of a waste. I would definitely be reaching for the shimmery shades in the palette, however, I would have to combine it with a few of my other currently owned palettes in order to create a variety of looks.
It would be a good palette to take on the go, but it’s definitely not one I would be reaching for if I’m going for a glam look. I would consider this as more of a subtle palette, for someone who is new into eyeshadows or wants a palette that can be used for creating basic casual looks.
The blue shimmery shade (Libra) does give this palette a bit of a boost, but other than that, there aren’t really any other shades that strike my attention so far.
Should you purchase?
If you are considering picking this palette up, be sure that you are picking it up for the right reason and not necessarily the name behind it, because you might find that you already own a couple of the shades available in this palette.
Overall, it is a good quality palette, but I just don’t think it’s one I would repurchase if I hit pan. I do enjoy using Kim’s other products, especially her powder contour kit and her newly released concealers, but this palette was just a no for me.
I won’t consider this palette a fail, but rather a palette that just doesn’t fit my personality.
